Yaskawa SGDH / XtraDrive EOL: servo amplifiers hard to source

SGDH-* (Sigma-II) and XtraDrive modules (e.g. XD-15TN, XD-05TN) are still common in the field — and often scarce on the market. Price and lead time turn a failed servo amplifier into downtime with five-figure opportunity cost.
Why supply is tight
- Series discontinued / no regular new buy
- Repair market exists, but wait times and unclear remaining life
- Used units are expensive and poorly documented

Retrofit without a “new machine”
The goal is not to replace the whole asset, but to:
- Specify the axis / amplifier (power, feedback, bus)
- Select a modern compatible amplifier (adapter if needed)
- Document parameters, safety interfaces, and acceptance
Mechanics — and often the motor — stay; you replace the scarce, EOL node.
